Know about Victory Gardens
Remember learning about victory gardens in history class? Popularized during the World Wars, they were promoted by the United States’ government as a way for those on the homefront to contribute to the war effort.
Everyone who was not overseas battling on either the European or Pacific theatre did their part by growing carrots, peas and other basic vegetables to help prevent food shortages. Every person’s efforts, regardless of how large or small, had the potential to help themselves, their families, their communities and their country. Though the gardens are not as popular now as they were back then, graphic artist Joe Wirtheim took this concept and completely modernized classic American Wartime propaganda.
“There’s a new generation of Americans that want to make a healthier, happier community and I dedicate this work to them” -Joe Wirtheim
