New Yorkers have another reason to celebrate this month as the 2nd Annual Eat NYC event comes to town. The family event held at the Food and Finance High School on October 24th, the same day as National Food Day, will feature delicious food tastings and cooking demonstrations from the city’s best local and organic restaurants.

A bill of top food celebrities, including Celebrity Chef and best-selling author Rocco DiSpirito, will be delivering speeches and headlining the event.

In addition to DiSpirito, Dylan Richards, teen food critic and host of Dylan’s Lunchbox, will also deliver a special address about the need to eat healthier food. Dylan first became interested in food advocacy from his own poor experience with unhealthy food options at school. Since then he has talked with countless students on the need for school food reform. Season 2 of his show returns Wednesday, Oct. 31stat 9pm on NYC Media.

Event hosts Lisa Suriano, Avis Richards (the mother of Dylan Richards), and Peter Insalaco see Eat NYC as a means to address long-term problems within school food. They have teamed up to channel event proceeds to Mrs. Richards’ signature school garden initiative, the Ground Up Campaign. Her campaign, coupled with curriculum from Mrs. Suriano’s education company Veggiecation, provides indoor academic gardens to public schools across the nation in an effort to promote vegetable-centered, farm-to-table eating habits and proper nutrition.

The Ground Up Campaign is just one of Mrs. Richard’s healthy eating initiatives that form the base of her Lunch Movement. She has also produced an award-winning documentary Lunch exposing the failures of the National School Lunch Program and the Emmy Award-nominated show, Lunch NYC.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids and can be purchased at http://eatnyc2012.eventbrite.com
