Teaming up with ABC Carpet & Home and Executive Chef Dan Kluger, Jean-Georges Vongerichten has done it again. With a focus on fresh and local ingredients, Vongerichten has created another superb dining experience. Together, they created a true farm to table experience providing the best local and organic ingredients in every dish. ABC invests in keeping up with constantly changing trends of sustainable farming.
Chef Dan runs to the green market in union square ever morning to pick up, fresh, clean and local produce.
The restaurant itself has a 350 mile radius for obtaining both produce and protein. They utilize all the great farms in upstate New York, Pennsylvania and New England area. Also, they partner with craft fisheries and free range fish farms.
The restaurant was quaint and full of energy. It was open and airy, yet cozy at the same time and is the perfect place to transport you out of the city during those hot summer months. Besides the ambiance and great initiatives ABC Kitchen has to offer, the food is definitively something to talk about.
The menu changes all the time depending on the fresh and seasonal ingredients. To start I ordered the homemade ricotta with rhubarb compote which came with grilled toast on the side. The combination of the creamy, salty ricotta and tart rhubarb really had my taste buds going. Next, I ordered the kale salad with thinly sliced jalapeños that added an extra kick to every bite. For my main course, I tried the blacken sea bass with chilies and herbs, baby potatoes and spinach. The dish was light, but flavorful. I also suggest trying one of their whole wheat pizzas; it was a great appetizer to share! I highly recommend ABC for a guilt-free, delicious meal.
